There’s a lot of chatter about jazz album covers, often the obligatory and deserved “aren’t-Blue Note-covers-fantastic.” But it’s rare that a bona fide design historian like Victor Margolin digs in and surveys the history of how jazz LPs got so great to begin with, and how they led to the rock design revolutions of the 60s and 70s.
As a bonus, you might want to check out a broader graphic history of the album cover (which still appropriately focuses on a lot of jazz) by Guity Novin.
